Hi, Brittany! Yes, rice wine vinegar and rice vinegar are the same product. Rice vinegar is often labeled as rice wine vinegar and vice versa—two different names for the same thing! If, however, you come across anything labelled just “rice wine” without the word vinegar anywhere, then that is a different product all together and should not be used interchangeably.

If you can’t find rice vinegar/rice wine vinegar, a good substitute is apple cider vinegar. The red wine vinegar you have will definitely be stronger than the more sweet and delicate rice wine vinegar. It’s worth seeking it out because it really is a great to have on hand for lots of things, but if you’re having trouble finding it then swap in apple cider vinegar! Hope this helps!

Cassie, I accidentally bought red wine vinegar and now can’t find rice wine vinegar. I also don’t know if rice wine vinegar and rice vinegar are the same or not. Is there an alternative I can use? And are those the same?

Great recipe. I added soy sprouts and a spoon of oyster sauce instead of cornstarch. I will try this again. My family loved it.
