This jam is pretty much life-changing. It's sweet, tangy, fruity. I know some people love the smooth, clear results you get with making jelly, but this jam is packed full of rhubarb chunks and strawberry pieces. I love that you can actually see the fruit when you spread it onto an English muffin. This jam makes my breakfast happy. Use frozen fruit for a frosty treat any time. It’s hard to top the classic fruity tartness of a mixed berry smoothie! This beautifully-pink smoothie is a breeze to make, and it’s packed full of wonderful flavor and nourishing antioxidants. This mixed berry smoothie is infinitely adaptable because you get to choose what frozen berries make up your smoothie! Craft your perfect combination of strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, and blackberries—or take a shortcut and used a mixed frozen berries from the frozen fruit section of your supermarket. Overhead of finished smoothie with fresh berries and milk.

What do I need for your mixed berry smoothie recipe?

In all likelihood, you already have everything you need in your kitchen! You’ll need:
  • Frozen bananas. The banana will up the fruity flavor, while also adding sweetness and creaminess.
  • Frozen berries. You can use whatever frozen berries that make you happy—strawberries, raspberries, blueberries, blackberries, or a mix! If you head to the frozen fruit section at your local grocery store, you’ll probably spy a few bags of mixed berries. These are my favorite for this smoothie!
  • Milk. Any kind of milk will work—cow’s milk, soy milk, coconut milk, unsweetened almond milk. Whatever you have!
  • Plain Greek yogurt. Not only does yogurt make the smoothie even creamier, but it also gives it a boost of protein, so you aren’t hungry again 30 minutes after finishing your drink.
  • Honey or maple syrup. You may or may not need this one, depending on how ripe your banana is.

Blueberry Overnight Oats https://wholefully.com/blueberry-overnight-oats/ https://wholefully.com/blueberry-overnight-oats/#comments Thu, 25 Apr 2024 14:15:22 +0000 https://wholefully.com/?p=50421 We have a lot of rich and decadent overnights oats recipes here on Wholefully, but sometimes you want something a little lighter and brighter for breakfast—and these Blueberry Lemon Overnight Oats fit the bill! Plump and sweet blueberries are suspended and a creamy and tangy lemon-flavored oatmeal. This lemon-blueberry combination reminds me of warm weather and sunshine! I make these oats when I’m craving a little bit of summertime (even in the middle of winter). Overnight oats are topped with blueberries and a twist of lemon.

What are overnight oats?

Overnight oats are a no-cook way to make oatmeal. Instead of cooking your rolled oats on the stove, you stir them together with liquid and other mix-ins, and let it all rest in the fridge overnight. It makes a great pudding-like porridge that you can eat cold, or warm up. For more on this grab-and-go breakfast favorite of mine, head on over to our Overnight Oats 101 post.

What makes overnight oats so special?

Overnight oats can be a meal prep staple in any busy household. Here’s why you’ll always find a stash in our fridge:
  • Overnight oats are delicious! If you’ve never had cold oatmeal before, it may sound off-putting, but trust me! This porridge is hearty, creamy, and tastes like pudding! (But if you really don’t like the idea of eating them cold, you can heat them up, too—more on that in a sec.)
  • They can be a healthy and hearty way to start the day. You get to control everything that goes into your overnight oats, so you can make them into a super nourishing, nutritious breakfast. Add some collagen or protein powder. Mix in some super seeds, like chia, flax, or hemp. Reduce the added sweeteners, or drop them completely. You can make these oats your breakfast superfood!
  • Overnight oats are super easy to make in advance. Spend a few minutes mixing up your overnight oats in the evening or on the weekend, and breakfast will be ready to grab-and-go by morning. Overnight oats aren’t just easy to meal prep—they are designed for it!
  • You can customize them to fit your dietary preferences. Make your overnight oats your own—they can be super nourishing or super decadent, vegan or gluten-free. We’re covering blueberry overnight oats here, but once you get a feel for overnight oats, you can discover your own favorite flavor.
  • They can be made in bulk. You’ll see overnight oats on meal prep menu after meal prep menu, and for good reason—you can make a full week’s worth of breakfasts at once.

How to Freeze Strawberries https://wholefully.com/how-to-freeze-strawberries/ https://wholefully.com/how-to-freeze-strawberries/#respond Tue, 23 Apr 2024 13:13:54 +0000 https://wholefully.com/?p=52178 Preserve the flavors of summer by learning how to freeze strawberries! It's an easy task that takes just a few minutes, and the frozen berries can be used in hundreds of ways. Make strawberry crisp, turn them into jam, put them in your smoothies—the possibilities are endless! Each May, I pick around 100 pounds of fresh, red, ripe strawberries. While a lot of those beautiful berries go straight into my family’s mouths, I do manage to save some of them for freezing as well. Strawberries are one of my favorite fruits to freeze because freezing preserves the flavor so well, and frozen strawberries are stupendously versatile! We love using frozen strawberries in jams, smoothies, crisps, pies, and oatmeal. Frozen strawberries are a wonderful way to bring a little bit of summer to wintertime! How do you freeze strawberries without them getting mushy?

Let’s be honest, no matter what you do, frozen strawberries are never going to have the same texture after defrosting as they would if they were fresh. But you can help the strawberries keep their shape and avoid mushiness if you follow a few simple rules:
  • Avoid using overripe strawberries—if they are dark red and already super-soft before going into the freezer, they will be mushy when you defrost them.
  • Freeze your strawberries in a single layer on a baking sheet before moving them to containers. Big clumps of frozen berries will defrost unevenly, making them more prone to mush.
  • Wash your strawberries before freezing. This will remove any potential mold or bacteria that would help your strawberries break down faster.
