Hi Essie! Generally, yes you can! The pear will still oxidize, but a lot slower in the freezer. Usually, it’s most noticeable when you thaw it. Frozen then thawed pears that haven’t been treated (or frozen in syrup) tend to turn brown and be mushy. But since you’ll be blending it up from frozen, it shouldn’t be a problem! If you do find the pear oxidizes more than you prefer, you can always use your pear preps up first, or swap in canned pears instead. I hope this helps! =)

When it comes to smoothies, can you use fruits that usually brown without treating them, like a fresh pear?

Hi, Candice! We fill our jars as much as we can with whatever fruits, dry ingredients, powders, and greens we’re using, then put the lid on and pop it into the freezer. So the right amount is whatever fits!

When you’re ready to make your smoothies, pour your liquid of choice (milk, nut milk, juice, water, etc.) right over top of the fruit and other ingredients, and fill the jar to the top. Then either blend it right in the jar with an immersion blender or pour the whole thing into a big blender. Using the big blender is less messy because the immersion blender tends to splash a bit! But you can avoid that by pouring everything into a taller cup for blending, like the ones that come with most immersion blenders.

If you’re looking for specific recipes for smoothies to give you ideas of ingredient combos to use, here’s our How to Make a Smoothie + 27 Simple Smoothie Recipes to Try post. I hope this helps!

you could also use wooden skewers stuck into a jar of rice or a piece of foam. just something that’s going to let it spread out for air flow like air drying laundry.

I use those same jars and lids for freezing/storing baby food so I have a ton on hand and it never occurred to me to use them to prep smoothie ingredients…Awesome tip!
