Why should I make this sheet pan sausage and veggies recipe?

Sheet pan dinners are great because you cook everything on one baking sheet and your veggies and meat are all ready to go at the same time. The prep work for this meal takes only a few minutes, so once itโ€™s assembled and in the oven, thereโ€™s nothing else you need to do! There are very few dishes involved in a sheet pan dinner since everything cooks on one tray. As an added bonus, if you cover your baking sheet in parchment paper or aluminum foil, it makes cleanup a breeze.

I love the mix of the chicken sausage with the Italian seasonings and fresh veggies. Because itโ€™s all cooked together, your broccoli, peppers, mushrooms, and potatoes have a bit of the flavor of the sausage in them, making it more likely that veggie haters will gobble this meal up.

Plus, with such a variety of foods on the plate, thereโ€™s bound to be something your kids will love, making this one of my favorite quick and easy kid-friendly dinners. Even though the ingredients all cook together, theyโ€™re still easy to separate. This makes it possible for picky eaters to choose the foods they like while avoiding the ones they donโ€™t.

What kind of sausage do I need?

This recipe calls for Italian chicken sausage. It pairs perfectly with the Italian seasonings, garlic, and onion powder seasonings. However, if you prefer a spicey or applewood chicken sausage then by all means, use your favorite! You could also use turkey sausage, Italian sausage links, or pork sausage as long as you adjust the cooking time accordingly.

If you don’t have Italian seasoning you can easily make some yourself using herbs. Simply combine a tablespoon of dried basil, oregano, and parsley with half a tablespoon of rosemary, thyme, red pepper flakes, and a half teaspoon of garlic powder.

What if I donโ€™t like one of these veggies?

If thereโ€™s a vegetable in this sheet pan sausage and veggies recipe that youโ€™re not fond of, you can leave it out. This recipe is super customizable, so if your favorite veggies arenโ€™t on this list, feel free to add them! Other vegetables such as zucchini, carrots, Brussels sprouts, cauliflower, and sweet potato all work well. Just make sure that you leave faster cooking veggies in bigger chunks while you cut slower cooking veggies a little finer to ensure an even cooking time.

You do not have to cover your sheet pan dinners with any type of foil or lid. Instead, use the foil to line your baking sheet prior to baking.
