This is quite possibly my favorite pasta salad in the world, and thatโs saying a lot, because Iโm a girl who lovvveesss her some pasta salad. But I really do think this Ranch BLT Pasta Salad is the queen of them all.
Because of course it isโitโs got crispy bacon, fresh tomatoes, and creamy homemade ranch dressing. Itโs like all the good things in life came together in one bowl! This is the perfect picnic or potluck dishโtrust me, everyone will be raving and begging for the recipe.
What is the best ranch dressing for this pasta salad?
The key to the best flavor here is my special homemade ranch dressing recipe below. I know, I know, you have your favorite bottled ranch dressing that you loveโand Iโm sure it would do the trick if youโre crunched for timeโbut I think this ranch dressing recipe is really worth the extra few minutes it takes to whip up. You might never go back to store-bought ranch again!
What do I need to make this easy BLT pasta salad recipe?
This pasta salad recipe takes all the flavors of a classic BLT sandwich, and turns them into a pasta salad! For the homemade dressing, you’ll need:
- Mayo
- Sour cream or full-fat plain Greek yogurt
- Milk
- Herbs and spices: dried dill, dried parsley, dried chives, garlic powder, salt, black pepper
- Lemon juice
In addition to the homemade dressing, the BLT pasta salad ingredients you’ll need are:
- Cooked pasta. We recommend rotini pasta to hold on to the dressing and mix-insโregular, whole wheat, or gluten-free noodles all work in this pasta salad.
- Red onion
- Cherry tomatoes
- Cooked bacon slices
- Fresh parsley
- Romaine lettuce
Can I use gluten-free noodles for this BLT pasta salad?
Iโve made this pasta salad with regular wheat pasta, gluten-free (corn flour) pasta, and grain-free (chickpea flour) pasta, and it turned out great each time. I do recommend slightly undercooking both the gluten-free and grain-free pasta because they tend to break apart more easily when chilled if cooked completely.
Uh…lettuce in a pasta salad?
And yes, this pasta salad has Romaine lettuce in it, and I can see you over there thinking But Cass, doesnโt that lettuce get slimy? And my answer is Yes, eventually, and thatโs why I ask you to add it right before serving! The lettuce adds such a wonderful, crisp crunch, plus the blast of green color makes this pasta salad swoon-worthy. If youโre bringing this to a potluck, just make the entire salad ahead of time and bring the lettuce in a separate container. Toss it in right before the buffet line starts.
Can I make this into a main dish?
Pasta salad is one of the classic side dishes, but you can definitely bulk it up to be a full lunch or a dinner entree! Try adding some grilled chicken for more protein, or avocado for additional fat.
